Our Equipment

Check the events page for the next scheduled star party.

Many people in our group have a interest in the technical aspects of astronomical equipment. These are some pictures of Colin's workshop area.

optics benchDual spindle grinding table designed by Stanley Brower. Straight stroke arms can handle over 16" diameter, both spindles and arms are variable speed controlled. Owned by CMAS

optics benchClose up of table. Cold pressing 8" f/15 spherical mirror to be used to test optical flats.

optical flat16" diameter testing unit. Owned by CMAS. About 1/4 wave flat on one side, 235" radius sphere on reverse. This is a sister to a single surface flat that also belongs to the club. One possibility is to keep the sister flat as a shop test piece, and parabolize this spherical mirror for a 16" f/7 Newtonian. This would possibly be all the scope our club would ever need. We do have the ability to do this once we find a permanent site for an observatory
